Roger Huerta, Now a Free Agent, Looking to Fight in Summer

After a 1-2 run last year, former UFC lightweight standout Roger Huerta is no longer under contract with the Bellator promotion.

"Jeff Clark (Huerta's manager) and my management team are in talks with other promotions now into having me fight in the summer," Huerta said on The MMA Hour.
Huerta (21-5-1) was last in action in a TKO loss to Eddie Alvarez at Bellator 33 last October. The loss would turn out to be the final chapter in Huerta's disappointing Bellator run. Favored to win the promotion's lightweight tournament upon signing, Huerta was ousted in the semifinals and was only booked against Alvarez because tournament winner Pat Curran had to bow out due to injury.

After the loss to Alvarez, Huerta had to take step back and reevaluate his MMA career, so he packed up and traveled east to Thailand, Southeast Asia and Australia.

"I wanted to see where I was at in life," Huerta said. "Where I fit in in this whole work that I do, which is fighting, and see what I really, really wanted to do and why I lost the last couple of fights. Just to reevaluate a couple of things and change for the better."

Huerta, now rejuvenated after the five-month long trip, is ready to resume to his MMA career -- wherever it might be.

"[MMA retirement is] not in the cards," the 28-year-old said. "I'm still fairly young and I still have some good fights in me."

Hey guys, there are links being spread around the net about picks or vids of the bin Laden. Don't be an idiot and click on them. While it's not mma news, we do have a very tiny reach so I thought I would spread the word. Be careful guys.

(CNN) -- As news spread that the White House won't release photos of Osama bin Laden's body, federal authorities and security experts on Wednesday were urging Web users to be careful clicking on fake links claiming to offer images or video about his death.

Since the U.S.-led raid that killed bin Laden on Sunday, e-mail inboxes and social-media sites like Facebook have been flooded with bad links that, at best, are unwanted spam and, at worst, contain harmful computer viruses.

People in the cybersecurity industry aren't surprised. Big news events, as well as popular public figures (think Anna Kournikova and Justin Bieber) are often used as click bait for spammers and scammers.

"I suppose this was inevitable," Dave Marcus, head of security research for McAfee Labs, wrote in a blog post. "The reported death of Osama Bin Laden is just too good a lure for cybercriminals and scammers to pass up."

His post lists multiple examples of bin Laden-related malware.

One message claims to link to a photo of the terror leader holding a newspaper to prove he's still alive. One e-mail, written in Spanish, uploads a Trojan horse virus when a photo link is clicked. And a phony Facebook page asks users to paste a script in their browsers which, in turn, spams their friends with the same link.

That page is called "Osama bin Laden Killed (Live on Video)."

"Beware of any verbiage, subject lines in emails, or links via Facebook or Twitter that contain words like these -- as they will almost certainly get you into trouble," Marcus wrote. "Make sure your security software is fully updated and be sure to use safe browsing software as well."

An administration official briefed by the White House told CNN on Wednesday that the president has decided against releasing photos of bin Laden.

Faked photos purporting to show bin Laden's corpse already are circulating online.

On Wednesday Facebook Security posted a message encouraging users to be careful when clicking questionable links and to use the site's "Mark As Spam" links to report that content.

The FBI has released a warning about malicious software being spread with the fake links.

The agency's Internet Crime Complaint Center urges the following:

• Adjust privacy settings on your social-networking sites, like Facebook, to make it harder for friends or non-friends to post items to your wall.

• Do not agree to download new software in order to view a video. This often masks applications that can infect your computer.

• Read e-mails and social-media posts carefully. Malicious messages often contain poor grammar, misspellings and "nonstandard English."

• Report messages that claim to be from the FBI or other security agencies. Their names are often used to try to establish legitimacy.

Hey guys! James Ryan here...

Well, what can I say? It’s been an interesting week to say the least.

Lately, my life has been a tad bit on the hectic side anyway, what with finishing the book and all (thanks to everyone for putting up with me over the past few months), and I really wish I could say that it’s about to get a whole lot easier, but somehow I seriously doubt it. At least, that’s my prediction anyway.

Therefore, I really just wanted to enjoy the “calm before the storm” and partake in a little quality time with my son Jacob, before my life starts to get any busier.

Gee…can you tell that I’m expecting an insane reaction to my book? lol

Last week, my son turned 14, and we had such a great time last summer at the UFC Fan Expo in Boston, that I really wanted to be able to enjoy the Fan Expo with him again in Toronto without having to worry about anything else this weekend—especially work.

Hence the reason why I chose to release my new self-published book, DESOLATE WARRIOR: The Inspirational Story of Will Ribeiro, at midnight tonight, immediately following the UFC 129 main event.

Jacob and I had a really great time over the weekend, and we met a lot of really great people at the Expo as well. Being there with my son definitely helped me to appreciate just how unique and great this sport truly is. Plus, it always gives me great pleasure to be able to share these exciting experiences with him—first hand.

Oh and something really funny happened today at the Fan Expo.

I was passing by the ECW Press booth (they publish books such as the MMA Encyclopaedia, written by Jonathan Snowden) and I stopped to make a little inquiry:

“Do you guys have the new Will Ribeiro book?” I asked.

“Nope, but I hear it’s REALLY good,” the man replied.

I thought that was pretty funny, especially considering that no one has even read the book yet—especially him.

But let’s hope he’s right anyway. lol

WASHINGTON - U.S. officials have released new details about the death of al-QaedaleaderOsama bin Laden. The elite US forces who raided his compound yesterday had hoped to capture him alive. But a firefight broke out, leaving the al-Qaedaleader and 3-others dead. Danielle Nottingham reports from the White House.

U.S. officials say that they have proof that Navy Seals killed Al Qaeda's leader. His dead body was identified by one of his wives, as well as by DNA and facial recognition technology.

A team of elite U.S. forces stormed the million-dollar home and ended up in a firefight. Bin Laden was shot in the head. One of his sons, two couriers, and a woman used as a human shield were also killed.

The U.S. team left in a helicopter about 45-minutes after the raid began with bin Laden's body on board. He was later buried, his body released from an aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea. No members of the US team were injured.

PresidentObama gave the order to go on Friday, but preparations had been underway for months. The U.S. forces involved in the raid had practiced taking over a full-scale model of the compound built on a US air base in Afghanistan.

U.S. officials are quick to point out, the fight against violent extremism isn't over because of Bin Laden's death. Attacks in retaliation could come from al-Qaeda's main branch in Pakistan or, one of its 'other' affiliates - like the one in Yemen.

That's the group that attempted to blow up a plane over Detroit on Christmas day, 2-years ago and, managed to get explosives on board U.S. cargo planes, last year.

Photos were taken of bin Laden's body before it was buried at sea. The Obama administration is still deciding whether or not to release those photos to the public.

Although I may be more than disappointed in the outcome and lack of action and “killer instinct” from champion, Georges St. Pierre, he’s still dominated last night’s fight against another outmatched opponent in Jake Shields. Yes you can argue that the champ’s lat 4 fights have been a boring at times, they have however proved time and time again how truly dominant the UFC’s and the world’s top welterweight MMA fighter is. He now has very few challenges left for him at 170lbs. Coming to mind are former WEC champion Carlos Condit and current Strike force champion Nick Diaz. GSP’s main target before last night might have been to meet Anderson Silva at 185lbs. for the UFC’s “Super fight” between the top 2 LB. 4 LB. MMA fighters in the world. Most people that I’ve talked to have already bashed the UFC Welterweight champions performance last night but let’s dig a lil’ deeper, shall we? First off, Georges looked brilliant for the first 2 ½ rounds with a nice balance of jab, leg kicks, and other various strikes kept Jake Shields off balance and looking very much the lesser of the 2 fighters. Shortly after a nicely placed jab by challenger, Jake Shields, caused the champ to lose the vision in his left eye. In typical Greg Jackson fashion and to his credit, he quickly calmed his fighter down and assured him that he was tough enough to make the 5 round fight a successful title defense. So if we look at this fight for what it really was we’ll see that Georges St. Pierre defended his UFC title against a tough Jake Shields with 1 eye. This is the real question…Is Georges St. Pierre tough enough to keep competing against the top of the MMA world? I believe he will fine after all is said and done but he is in need of more help with a healthy dose of “KILLER INSTINCT!!!” Do you think that Georges is too soft to compete at 185 lbs. in the UFC? Does he have the goods to beat Nick Diaz? Is Carlos Condit a legit challenger to the 170 lb. UFC title? Sound off Crypt heads…???
