UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi draws 11,008 attendance for estimated $3.5 million live gate
Although the makeshift venue reportedly will be torn down on Monday, Concert Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, provided a financial windfall for the UFC coffers. The outdoor venue hosted Saturday's pay-per-view event and drew an attendance of 11,008 for an estimated live gate of $3.5 million.
The UFC shared the figures during the night's post-fight press conference.
UFC 112 marked the UFC's Middle East debut following the government-owned Flash Entertainment's purchase of a 10 percent stake in the UFC earlier this year. To accommodate the show, Concert Arena was erected as a temporary venue that will be torn down next week.
UFC 112 featured two title fights; Anderson Silva defended his middleweight title with a largely panned unanimous-decision win over Demian Maia, and Frankie Edgar upset B.J. Penn via decision to win the lightweight title.
After 12 consecutive events without topping the $3.5 million gate mark, the UFC has now reached the figure in back-to-back shows. Last month's UFC 111 event at Newark's Prudential Center in New Jersey earned an estimated gate of $4 million.
