Does Hendo Win Put Him Among The Elite?
Dan Henderson was once on top of the world when he famously knocked out British Bomber Michael Bisping. Since that time Hendo has been through a whirl wind of winning, losing, a job change, and drama. Does last night’s win over Rafael Cavalcante put his name back on top among the elite? Check the post after the jump to find out.Rankings are completely opinion. Proof of that is the wide range you will get from poll to poll. Rampage Jackson goes from two to six in just a hand full of different rankings. One light heavyweight ranking had Anderson Silva as the top guy with the current champ Shogun at four.
Dan Henderson falls anywhere from 2-9. Some didn’t even have him on their list.
His all around game once put him in position as the only true test to Anderson Silva, but after his last loss he was assumed “left for the dead” and but only a skeleton of his former self.
At times during the fight, Hendo looked lost and in trouble, but his patented right hand helped him pull of the win.
Throughout his career, Hendo has amassed an impressive 27-8 record by defeating some of the biggest names in the sport. Holding wins over Michael Bisping, Wanderlei Silva, Rich Franklin, and Vitor Belfort; he certainly has a hall of fame resume. However, now fighting for Strikeforce, he may never have the opportunity to fight the world’s best.
To answer the title question, the answer is simply…kinda… No one will ever be quoted as saying “Feijao is one of the best in the world.” As a result no one is going to give Dan Henderson the type of respect to be earned as if he had defeated one of the UFC’s top competitors.
Kinda often leans toward no. Hendo is an aging fighter that was in trouble during this fight. He looked lost in his defeat to Jake Shields, and was a different referee away from this one being stopped.
Hendo may have got another belt, but he will never again be confused as the best light heavyweight fighter in the world. He closed that chapter when he decided to take his namesake, likeness, and Team Quest roots to Strikeforce.
