Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard scored the fastest knockout in the promotion's history, requiring only six seconds in the first round to completely destroy UFC veteran Jay Silva, in a non-title, 190-pound catch weight fight at the Monroe Civic Center in Monroe, La.

Silva, who was fighting on short notice after replacing Paulo Filho, was coming off of two straight losses in the UFC, both of which went to a decision.

Lombard, whose record has now improved to 26-2-1, has not lost an MMA bout since November 2006—a streak of 19 straight matches.

Impressed yet?

You absolutely should be.

Do the math. That’s 19 straight wins in approximately the same amount of time that Tito Ortiz brags about defending his UFC light-heavyweight title FIVE TIMES!

So what could UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva learn from Lombard?

Well for starters, how to finish a fight against an inferior opponent without making a complete mockery of the sport.

Remember that you heard it here first fight fans (probably not)…Hector Lombard will be the heir to the pound-for-pound throne in the next two years.

And yet, not surprisingly, many disgruntled fight fans in attendance felt quite adamant that they did not receive their money’s worth from that fight.

Why not?

Because the world is full of haters.

Please read the following comments by some of those in attendance. Personally, I find the remarks to be a bit unfair and biased, but please judge for yourself. It just goes to show that you can’t please everybody.

I hope you are sitting down…

“That was total B*&@#%. Lombard should be forced to fight with one, or both arms tied behind his back. There’s absolutely no room for knock outs in the sport of MMA.”—Lyoto, fight fan

“The referee is completely at fault here. He should have stepped in before Lombard connected with his second punch to slow the action down. I still have a full Miller Light beer.”—Brock, fight fan

“I was Twittering. What happened?”—Georges, fight fan

“Lombard doesn’t even fight in the UFC. How good could he [expletive] be? Seriously?!”—Dana, fight fan

“Sure he can punch, but can he dance?”—Chuck, fight fan

“I don’t see what the big deal is. Anderson Silva would have run circles around Lombard. Literally—Lombard would have a hard time catching him.”—Demian, fight fan

“After what we just saw from Josh Koscheck at UFC 113, how do we know that Silva wasn’t just faking being knocked out?”—Paul, fight fan

“I have lost all respect for Bellator and Hector Lombard. This fight never should have taken place. Clearly, Silva suffers from extreme narcolepsy and fell asleep. For shame Bellator…for shame.”—Misfit from MMA Crypt

“Good fight, but personally for me, I enjoy a little more taunting and showboating.”—Anderson, fight fan

“He’s no Seth Petruzelli.”—Kimbo, fight fan

Okay, okay…all joking aside, nobody that I am aware of had a single complaint about Lombard’s performance.

And why should they?

It was an awesome display of punching power by Lombard (and disrespect by Silva).
