St-Pierre targets Danaher, Nurse, Zahabi and others as "TUF 12" assistant coaches

It takes a village to build a fighter, and Georges St-Pierre plans to bring one for "The Ultimate Fighter 12."

The UFC welterweight champion and "TUF 12" coach recently told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that he has at least five names in mind to assist him on the reality show.

The assistant coaches include: jiu-jitsu aces John Danaher and Shawn Williams, Muay Thai specialists Phil Nurse and Jean-Charles Skarbowsky, and St-Pierre's longtime MMA coach Firas Zahabi.

St-Pierre, 29, said his choices are not set in stone and could change with each trainer's availability. He also mentioned bringing some of his training partners at Greg Jackson's MMA to supplement on-set coaching.

If all of his picks attend, St-Pierre's coaching staff could be one of the bigger squads in the history of "TUF."

Why so many names? The champion plans to get an early start on his preparation for an expected fight with opposing coach Josh Koscheck at the season's end.

"I'm going to use (the show) for a training camp as well," St-Pierre said. "I'm going to be training for those six weeks."

St-Pierre, who in March defended his 170-pound title a fourth consecutive time, faced Koscheck at UFC 74 in August 2007 and won a unanimous decision.

St-Pierre (20-2 MMA, 15-2 UFC) previously appeared on "The Ultimate Fighter" as a general coach on its fourth season, titled "The Comeback," as veteran fighters vied for title shots in the welterweight and middleweight divisions. The welterweight winner of that season, Matt Serra, shocked the world by defeating St-Pierre at UFC 69 in one of the biggest upsets in the promotion's history. It took St-Pierre a year to re-capture the undisputed title at UFC 83 in Montreal.

"TUF 12" coaches and fighters report to Las Vegas this week to begin filming of the Spike TV-broadcast series.
