Jason Brilz vs Antonio Rogerio Nogueira booked for May 29 with Forrest Griffin hurt
Jason Brilz today was awarded the opportunity to make an immediate impact in the light heavyweight division as the decorated amateur wrestler willstep up on short notice to fight Pride FC import Antonio Rogerio Nogueria in the at UFC 114: "Rampage vs. Evans" on May 29 in Las Vegas.Nogueira's oriiginal opponent, Forrest Griffin, was forced to withdraw from the event due to a shoulder injur. As "Lil' Nog" tells Tatame.com, there isn't much he can do about the last-minute switch except refine his strategy:
The twin brother of UFC heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira punched a one-way ticket on the train to title contention with a first round destruction of Luis Arthur Cane at UFC 106: "Ortiz vs. Griffin 2" in November 2009."What can I do? I want to fight him standing up and then fall onto the ground and try to finish him. It switched from a striker to a wrestler but I'll still be searching for the knockout"
The victory over "Banha" was the sixth straight for the former Brazilian boxer, who also convincingly finished five of those six contests.
Brilz will certainly have his work cut out for him.
The Nebraska-based fighter has compiled an impressive 18-2-1 record and has notable wins over veterans such as Jason MacDonald, Alex Schoenauer and Tim Boetsch, among others.
His last appearance inside the Octagon was as recent as UFC on Versus 1, where he took home a unanimous decision win against Eric Schafer in Broomfield.
UFC 114 will run in conjunction with this year's Fan Expo at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center and feature a 205-pound grudge match between former light heavyweight champions and Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 coaches "Sugar" Rashad Evans and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.
