UFC 113 draws reported attendance of 17,647 for $3.27 million live gate
MONTREAL – The UFC's third trip to Montreal's Bell Centre wasn't quite as lucrative as the promotion's first two events in the building, but Saturday night's UFC 113 event still drew a reported crowd of 17,647 attendees.UFC president Dana White released the figure at the evening's post-event press conference, while also reporting a live gate of $3.27 million.
The UFC's first two events in Montreal, 2009's UFC 97 and 2008's UFC 84, each drew more than 21,000 ticket holders to the home of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens.
UFC 97 holds the North American attendance record for a mixed martial arts event with 21,451 attendees and a reported $4.9 million gate. UFC 84 ranks just behind it with 21,390 attendees generating an impressive $5.1 million gate.
"UFC 113: Machida vs. Shogun II" featured a light heavyweight title fight rematch between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. The night's main card aired live on pay-per-view.
While UFC 113 did not feature Canadian superstar and UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, the fight card did feature seven fighters competing in their native country. It was a rough night for the home team as the Canadians went 1-6 on the night.
As for the fights, White said he was impressed at the action.
"I was excited for these fights," White said following the event. "On paper, I thought these fights were great. You never know how it's really going to turn out, but I said this at the press conference before, and I'll say it again, 99.9 percent of the time, these guys always deliver. They go out and put on a great performance, and that's why we are who we are."
The reported attendance figure represents an average revenue of $185.30 per ticket issued. The total number of comp tickets was not released.
