Tito Ortiz Talks About His Injury, Calls Out Forrest Griffin

Tito Ortiz Talks About His Injury, Calls Out Forrest Griffin

"I did it about three and a half months into training, I was at Rafael Cordeiro’s training doing my Muay Thai, I think we went into the 10th round about 10 seconds left in the 10th round and one of my training partners went to go throw a right hand (and) he was southpaw, I was orthodox, I was throwing a right hand at the same time. His head was a little lower than mine and it caught me right above the bridge of my eyebrow and went straight to the bone in my skull and gave me 22 stitches."

"Kind of stopped for a second, everything went out and looked like it was black for a second. Didn't knock me out unconscious but I took a knee, stood up and I looked in the mirror and blood just came gushing down. ...I called Dana, and he had me come out and see one of his doctors and they said I had a minor concussion."

Chael Sonnen Wants To Face Michael Bisping Next in the UFC

Chael Sonnen Wants To Face Michael Bisping Next in the UFC

Michael Bisping’s actions at UFC 127 earned him a victory, but it also may have prodded a hornet’s nest. The one looking to sting the Brit next is a returning Chael Sonnen.
Still considered the top middleweight contender in the UFC,
MMAWeekly.com was able obtain an email sent from Sonnen to UFC matchmaker Joe Silva requesting a fight against Bisping in the near future.
To: Joe Silva, Matchmaker Extraordinaire, Ultimate Fighting Championship
Re: Spitsbing & his tainted victory

Joe:
If you get a chance to talk with him, please mention to your idiot-in-residence Michael Spitsbing it’ll be a little tougher to knee ME in the head when I’m charging at him like a runaway train and mincing him through the fence like a boiled potato, should we ever have the pleasure of each other’s company for a few (VERY few) moments in the Octagon.

Oh; and I’d suggest to him being a little careful about spitting on any of MY cornermen, since any one of them can beat him up as badly as I can. Thanks ever so much.
Hope all is well.

-Chael Sonnen
When UFC 127 ended, many fans immediately started asking about a potential fight between Sonnen and Bisping, who have exchanged words in the past.
Sonnen’s manager, Mike Roberts of MMA Inc., echoed the sentiments of his client, and his desire to face Bisping when he returns to action.
“I’ve had the chance to talk to Chael and he absolutely has Michael Bisping in his crosshairs and wants to fight him,” Roberts told MMAWeekly.com “Chael welcomes the chance to face him in the UFC and give the fans what they want.”
Sonnen is awaiting a return to action after a hiatus from fighting due to personal issues, but now it appears he’s ready to start stirring things up, and the first person on his hit list is Michael Bisping.
The brash Brit ruffled more than a few feathers with his post fight antics when he spit in the corner of opponent Jorge Rivera after their fight ended in Australia. Bisping has also come under heavy criticism for an illegal knee strike that he landed on Rivera in the first round, although he’s stated several times it was purely accidental.
Vitor Belfort also hit Twitter recently to state his desire to face Bisping.
There has been no date for when Sonnen might return to action, but a fight against Bisping might just be the fight the UFC would want for him.

Jon Fitch Likely Screwed Himself Out of Another Title Shot

Jon Fitch Likely Screwed Himself Out of Another Title Shot

(“First of all, we refer to him as, ‘He who must not no be named’ and secondly, no he will not be getting a title shot.”
Jon Fitch has gotten used to the fact that he may never get a title shot. He’s been promised one for a while now, but the UFC seems to keep yanking the opportunity away right before Fitch can grab it.
The problem isn’t that the American Kickboxing Academy fighter isn’t winning fights (he’s undefeated since 2009), it’s that he hasn’t finished an opponent in nearly four years, and for the UFC to base a pay-per-view on a main card fight between a round-winner like Fitch and an a decision-centric fighter like UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre who hasn’t stopped a fight since 2009 would be a major gamble.
Both the UFC’s president Dana White and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta have long proclaimed that they don’t care if their contracted fighters win every bout as long as they come to fight and perform their best. Fitch seems more content with doing what he needs to outpoint his opponents and coast to a victory, which doesn’t bode well with the promotion’s brass, the fans or the media as it makes for a boring and formulaic fight. THAT’S why White rescinded a proclamation that the winner of Fitch’s UFC 124 bout with Thiago Alves would get the next crack at St-Pierre after Fitch took the decision and THAT’S why he has now said that neither fighter involved in the main event majority draw Saturday night at UFC 127 will likely be next in line for the winner of April’s GSP vs. Jake Shields bout.
Even Fitch said at the post-fight presser that he didn’t know if he should become the number one contender based on his performance against BJ Penn in Australia. If he would have pulled the trigger and *tried* to finish the fight, rather than rack up ground striking points in the third round, he could have eked out a 10-8 round by actually having BJ in trouble before the final frame ended. If that happened, we’d be writing about how GSP was going to beat him, rather than how he Fitched himself out of another title shot.
“I don’t know right now [if I deserve a title shot]. I’m awfully disappointed with my performance. I expect more. I should have put on a better show and performed better tonight to make that a question no one had to ask. I don’t know. I’ll leave it up to the bosses and we’ll see what they want to do with me.”
White told ESPN that, if anyone, Penn won the fight.
“I didn’t think it was a draw,” White told ESPN.com. “I looked at the scorecards and the two judges who had it a draw scored the first two rounds for Penn and the third round a 10-8 [for Fitch]. Personally, I scored the first two rounds for Penn and had him winning the fight. There’s no doubt B.J. got pounded in the third round, but that wasn’t a 10-8 round. You’ve got to get in there and decisively beat people. You have to have fans clamoring for you to fight for the title.”
Fitch on the other hand has changed his tune slightly since Saturday night and is now claiming that he decisively won the bout.
Finally watched the fight back myself. first rnd draw and I won rnd 2 and 3,” he tweeted Sunday night. “I will prove myself if I must. But I know I won that fight. Much respect to BJ. He is the legend I thought he was. I think that was the best BJ ANY of us have ever seen.”
White, who seems like he’s fed up with Fitch protesting that he deserves number one UFC welterweight contender status further discounted his claims that he won, pointing out that not only was he beaten, he was beaten by a much smaller opponent.
“Fitch is one of these guys that goes, ‘Oh, I want my respect,’” White said of the fighter whom was let go by the UFC for two days in 2008 for refusing to sign over his likeness rights to the promotion for use in the Jakks action figure line. “He just fought a 155-pound guy and went to a draw with him and in my opinion, he lost the first two rounds – and he’s crying for a title shot?”
Ouch. Somehow I don’t see him getting a shot any time in the near future unless he fights his teammate, Josh Koscheck to earn it, meaning it probably won’t ever happen.

Dana White Thinks Penn Won: "That wasn't a 10-8

Dana White Thinks Penn Won: "That wasn't a 10-8

"I didn't think it was a draw. I looked at the scorecards and the two judges who had it a draw scored the first two rounds for Penn and the third round a 10-8 [for Fitch]... Personally, I scored the first two rounds for Penn and had him winning the fight. There's no doubt B.J. got pounded in the third round, but that wasn't a 10-8 round."

UFC president Dana White tells ESPN.COM that he believes BJ Penn won last Saturday's main event against Jon Fitch that was ruled a draw after 3 rounds of contested action. Unfortunately for Penn fans, White's opinion cannot reverse or change history but as many have said, the fight was very close and the deciding frame of action was the third that saw two ringside judges score the contested round a 10-8 in favor of Fitch.

It looks like Daley vs. Diaz is now official and will probably go down April 9th

Now that Paul Daley has sent the DEEP welterweight champion, Yuya Shirai, astral traveling to the same realm that Semtex sent Dustin Hazelett to at UFC 108, it appears that Paul Daley has earned his title shot against Nick Diaz which is rumored to happen April 9th in Oakland, California. The BAMMA 5 bout was originally scheduled to be for the BAMMA welterweight title, but Daley missed weight by roughly a half pound, relegating the fight to a non-title, three round bout. Fortunately for Daley, he only needed 1:46 to finish Shirai with a brutal punch followed by a short flurry of ground strikes that ended Shirai's consciousness and his five-fight winning streak. It was a result that we pretty much expected, and according to Scott Coker, the win has earned Daley a spot on the April 9th show in California which will also include Kawajiri vs. Gilbert Melendez.
If you were expecting the second part of the Strikeforce Grand-Prix to go down on April 9th, you're not the only one. It looks like the second bracket of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand-Prix will happen on June 18th in the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, TX. This card will not only feature Overeem vs. Werdum and Barnett vs. Rogers, but it looks like Gina Carano, King Mo and possibly Herschel Walker will be competing in the event. Amazing, if true. Exclusive BAMMA 5 cage-side gallery coming soon from MiddleEasy, so hold on to your imaginary horses.

Forums - I blame Bisping's mom for standing up too quick during his conception for his actions

To me, this is worse than what Daley did, the only difference is that Bisping was smart enough to check it when Dana got to him.

I can't wait to see where zuffa/Dana stands in all this but something needs to be done. Back when Brock attacked the integrity of the zuffa sponsors, Dana went apeshit on Brock and fixed it. Bisping just anal raped the integrity of the whole sport of mma.

No amount of fighter bashing will cover this up for me. Plus, attacking Bisping as a fighter is just stupid, he's not that bad. However, as a person, I feel there are very, very few in the sport of mma that are worse than him. He's finally made it to the top, he is now the most hated fighter for me. It's not cause he's a prick, cocky, arrogant and all the typical stuff we hear about him. He's not stupid like most of us feel like about the war machine type of fighters. I can't say he's not a professional as I think he takes it very seriously and works very hard to improve his overall game unlike the Daley's of mma. He simply lacks class, he it just sooo far from even getting close to "getting" it. He's never taken responsibility for his actions, he got mind fucked by Rivera and his camp and feels he did nothing wrong.

It's not Bisping's fault he did what he did in the fight, it was Rivera's because they talked so much crap. Bisping is just a sensitive guy and can't be held responsible for his actions. Now here's the funny part, Bisping believes that crap.

You can teach a lot of stuff in class but you can't teach class.

And this has very little to do with the knee. As strong as I feel about Bisping being the lowest person in mma right now, I don't think he did the cheap shot on purpose. He got mind fucked by Rivera and was over amped, I can actually buy that. But spitting at the corner of Rivera with the protection of a fence between you and them is maybe the biggest bitch move one can do. He just spit on every face off every mma fan in the world imo. The ufc won't be talked about for putting on a good show this weekend on all the sport shows on Monday. All of ESPN's coverage will be about Bisping spitting. We won't hear about some guy taking short notice to fight and beat Chris Lytle. We won't be talking about how Damn good Siver looked. We won't even notice the greatest line to ever come out of a refs mouth, I'm guessing I'll have explain that last part later on. Bisping just took a shit on every single good thing that happened at UFC 127 and it has NOTHING to do with him being a prick, faggot, cunt or any other derogatory word. He just simply lacks class. The only class Bisping received at conception ran down his moms leg. And this is not fighter bashing, I have proof, just watch UFC 127.

This wasn't posted out of hate, it was posted out of embarrassment.

UFC 127 Interview: Inspirational Fighter Jason Reinhardt Makes UFC Debut

UFC 127 Interview: Inspirational Fighter Jason Reinhardt Makes UFC Debut

UFC Featherweight fighter, Jason Reinhardt is making his UFC debut at UFC 127 as he takes on Chinese hopeful, Zhang Tie Quan.

In a recent interview with Adam Clark, Reinhardt discusses his career (which includes a broken neck), his family, and joining the Wand Fight Team.

What makes Reinhardt a true inspiration is that he is hoping that this fight will provide with the opportunity to bring more awareness to our mutual friend, Will Ribeiro, the former WEC fighter who was badly injured in a motorcycle accident.

“My heart goes out to Will. These people need to look past all the bullshit, and realize the bottom line is that Will needs help. Plain and simple. So many times, people only think of themselves.”

“I broke my neck in the cage in 2001 in a title fight in St. Louis, Missouri, against Del "the Philipino Delight" Hawkins. I finished the fight and won after giving my opponent eleven stitches over his eye. Anyway, we both went to the hospital and I was flown to California for neck surgery, and was told that I would never be able to train again, or even pick up 20 pounds over my head. Now I’m fighting in the UFC.”

“Will, your heart and determination has given me the strength to keep going, and not give up. As fighters, sometimes we get down on ourselves in training. When this happens, I dig deep inside and think of you. You have been, and continue to be, a huge inspiration to many of us in MMA. Hang in there and continue to be the Warrior you are. We are all one.”

B.J. Penn’s Time at Lightweight May Have Come To An End

B.J. Penn’s Time at Lightweight May Have Come To An End

BJ Penn at UFC 123

Just a couple of years ago,
B.J. Penn was on his way to being considered the greatest lightweight the sport of MMA has ever seen. Now, as he gets ready to fight in his second straight bout at 170 pounds, his days as a lightweight may be behind him forever.

Despite a 3-3 record overall at welterweight, as Penn gets ready to face Jon Fitch in the main event at UFC 127, the Hawaiian sounds like he’s done with cutting weight and making the move down to lightweight.

“When it comes to 155 pounds, I don’t even like cutting the weight to make that weight. It’s not a tough cut for me, I probably cut about three or four pounds on the day of the weigh-in, but you’ve got to cut down food and you’ve got to cut your water down, and I don’t know if that’s a healthy thing,” he said recently.

Penn has stated on numerous occasions that he still looks at MMA as a fight, and not some athletic competition. He also doesn’t agree with many of the methods that a lot of fighters use to make weight, and then try to re-hydrate themselves for a fight 24 hours later.

“If we said let’s meet tomorrow at 12 o’clock to fight someone and your family honor is on the line, the first thing I wouldn’t do is stop drinking water and stop eating. I don’t see how that can help you and make you a stronger person,” Penn said.

“People I.V. and do all these things, and I never thought about playing those games and sticking needles in my arms.”

Weight cutting really has become a science in the mixed martial arts world. With wrestlers making up a big portion of the fighters transitioning into MMA, weight cutting is just a part of the sport.

While Penn points to the unhealthy side, several weight cutting gurus would point to the fact that there are right ways and wrong ways to shed pounds as weigh-in day approaches.

Former “Ultimate Fighter” competitor turned trainer Mike Dolce has worked with several top flight UFC fighters to get them on weight or help them cut down to a new weight class, and does so primarily with diet and not extreme measures. Still, Penn says, he’s not a fan of the methods used to make weight in this sport and he’s happy that he doesn’t have to change his lifestyle much before fighting at 170 pounds.

“I come from a whole different mindset. I believe you get as healthy as you can and you go fight the best guy possible,” Penn said.

“I feel that right now I’m at a great mindset and when we get to Australia we’re going to fight less than 24 hours after the weigh-in. I think the weigh-ins are around 4:30 and the show starts at 2 o’clock the next day, so I’d rather be in the position that I’m in because I don’t I.V., I don’t do things like that. I would rather be in the position to fight 20 hours later, me and Fitch are going to be standing in the ring looking at each other, and I’m going to be happy that I was drinking water and eating as much food as I could the whole time.”

When Penn has fought at welterweight before in fights against Georges St-Pierre and for his last fight against Matt Hughes, he’s come in well under the 170-pound limit, so he’s obviously still staying in shape, not ballooning up just because he can. He just prefers eating and drinking normally, without hitting the sauna to cut a few more pounds before weighing in.
With such a strong statement, could Penn’s time at lightweight be finished? Not so fast.

“I don’t think Dana would ever let that happen,” Penn joked when asked if he had shut the door on a return to 155 pounds.
If Penn is successful at UFC 127 against Fitch, UFC president Dana White has already said the winner would get the slot as the new No. 1 welterweight contender, so his weight class decision could already be made for him.

Forums - UFC champ Cain Velasquez: Not possible to determine world's No. 1 heavyweight

UFC champ Cain Velasquez: Not possible to determine world's No. 1 heavyweight Edit

You'd think it would be a job requirement for Cain Velasquez to say he's the best heavyweight mixed martial artist in the world.

After all, he fights for the UFC, the world's biggest and most popular MMA promotion.

You'd expect him to say he'd wipe the floor with the heavyweights of rival promotions such as Strikeforce, and that there's no comparison in the level of talent. He's certainly had a chance to do so since Strikeforce assembled eight of their best for this year's heavyweight grand prix, which kicked off fewer than two weeks ago with its first quarterfinal matchups.

Fans have started the debate without him, and most of the tournament's competitors say the winner of the competition will crown the world's best.

But Velasquez (9-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) isn't one to make those kinds of declarations. When it comes to how the heavyweights of the Strikeforce tournament match up against him and the UFC heavyweight division, he said it's impossible to know who's better.

"We won't know unless we get in the same organization," Velasquez told MMAjunkie Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). "Who's to say that I'm No. 1 or they're No. 1 if we haven't fought yet?"

Sadly, it's a question Velasquez can't answer for now. He badly damaged his rotator cuff when he took the UFC heavyweight title from Brock Lesnar this past October at UFC 121, and he won't be able to fight, conservatively, until the fourth quarter of this year. So for now, he's stuck on the sidelines as the heavyweight world turns.

"I've got to listen to the doctor, do the rehab, and get back as soon as possible," he said.

Before the injury, Velasquez was expected to fight top contender Junior Dos Santos in April. Dos Santos now is coaching opposite of Lesnar on "The Ultimate Fighter 13," and the two are expected to fight at UFC 131 in June. Meanwhile, the second quarterfinal event of the Strikeforce heavyweight tournament is expected to take place April 9, and it's already seen a huge upset in the first event with Antonio Silva's victory over Fedor Emelianenko. The Russian since has confronted the possibility of retirement.

Velasquez had picked Emelianenko or Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem as favorites prior to the upset. But he said Emelianenko's loss to Silva owed more to lack of size than lack of ability.

"He's still a great fighter," Velasquez said of "The Last Emperor." "He is undersized. He's been undersized since he started. (But) he's always pulled out the win. Those losses are tough, but I think he still has it."

That leaves Overeem to run the table. The champ is first scheduled to face Fabricio Werdum at the April event. His belt will not be on the line.

Velasquez, who fought his first professional fight under the Strikeforce banner, for now will watch the heavyweight tournament unfold as a fan.

"There are definitely great heavyweights that are fighting there," he said. "I'm excited to watch that whole thing. The guys that fought in PRIDE – those guys are definitely the best, too."

But as for who's the best? He can't say.

"We'll never know until we all fight each other," he said. "But they're definitely the top guys. No joke about that."

Very valid stuff but if Werdum wins the tournament and JDS beats Cain after beating Brock, then I'll know who #1 is and it ain't Werdum.

fabricio werdum is the number one heavyweight in the world right now!

So, if shields gets hurt and say somebody like Condit or Serra steps in on short notice and beats gsp, are they the best ww in the world? Werdum wasn't even average when fighting in the ufc and cause Fedor dives into a triangle, you are thinking he's number 1.

So, just so I get this straight, if Overeem beats Werdum, he's 1 and if silva beats Overeem, he's 1. Now they are in the finals and the guy from the other side of the bracket gets hurt so now one of the alts step in and win. Let's say its the older Overeem, now you will have him 1.
